Musings on Acts 6:3
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
We are following apostolic ideals when we look out amongst us for those men who are full of the Holy Ghost, full of wisdom etc .....
Frankly, it means that if you are not amongst us - that is, mixing with other saints in the local church, you couldn't be full of the Holy Ghost or wisdom etc .... could you? selah
This "looking out" is not in the spirit realm. It is not a vision or trance. It is a plain instruction to observe other saints when they are in the midst of saints in the local church.
Peter said we should observe you.
You say we should let you be.
Peter just burst a bubble
His instruction implies that there is nothing like that mythical or delusional idea that the Christian walk is purely a personal one between you and God.
Assuming the believer's walk to be between him or her and God, Some folks say, "My Christianity is between me and God, let me be". They are correct. They are describing their Christianity and not that of the Epistles.
The Christianity of the scriptures assumes that you are in a place where other saints can observe you and your walk closely.
Really, it takes some "creativity" for anyone to read the instructions of the Epistles and succumb to or promote that idea that their Christianity is personal.
Bible "sense" locates you in the local church ..... do the sensible thing today and give us the opportunity to "look out" for you ..... walk up to your pastor today and let him or her know that you want to get busy in the local church
