BREAKING NEWS: INEC Fixes New Date For Rescheduled Election In Rivers

The Independent National Elector@l Commission
(INEC) has rescheduled elections for April 18, Saturday
in Rivers state.
The rescheduled election is for areas in the state where
voting did not take place on 11th of April, last Saturday’s
elections due to some circumstances.
This announcement by the Rivers State Resident Elector@l
Commissioner, Gesila Khan, was contained in a statement
distributed through SMS by the Information Officer of
INEC in Rivers State, Daily Post reports.
According to the Resident Elector@l Commissioner, the
elections will hold in all the wards in Emohua Local
Government Area, It will also hold in wards 1, 2, 7, 9, 10
and 11 in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area.
He mentioned other wards to include; 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12e
and 13 in Ahoada-East Constituency One; as well as wards
5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in Ahoada-East Constituency Two.
Others wards where the election has been rescheduled are,
10, 12, 17, 18 and 19 in Etche Constituency 1, as well as
wards 1, 7, 8, 13 and 15 in Etche Constituency 2.
The out-going governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi
has criticised the outcome of the elections in the state.
After casting his vote at his polling unit, Ward 8, Unit 14,
Ubima in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state,
Gov Amaechi had described the April 11 governorship and
House of A$$embly elections election as a sham.
Also reacting to a call by the Minister of State II for
Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, that he and the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state should
concede defeat and congratulate the winner of the election,
Nyesom Wike in the interest of the state, Amaechi had
described the election as daylight robbery and a disgrace to
democracy.
INEC has also fixed April 18 for the run-off governorship
elections in Imo and Abia where last Saturday’s elections
were declared inconclusive.
