Again, Ex-Niger Delta Militants Hit Streets

Some aggrieved Niger Delta ex-militants who claimed that they were in the creeks working for their bosses and participated in the amnesty training at Obubra in Cross River state, took to the streets of Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, protestingthe non-payment of five months stipends bythe federal government.ex-Niger Delta militantsThe former militants who said they were tired of being frustrated by promises and lipservices on the payment of their five months allowances by the Amnesty office.The aggrieved ex-militants numbering over four hundred took the protest to the National Youth Council of Nigeria located along Azikiwe Road in the state capital The ex-agitators said that they had reported the non-payment of their allowances to the police, Department of State Services (DSS), electronic media houses and human rights commission.They lamented that some of their former bosses were holding influential positions in the government of the state, either in the Rivers state House of Assembly or at local government areas as members of caretakercommittee.They said that for the sake of peace, they were being patient about channelling their grievances in a civil manner and have contacted relevant authorities but got no response. The erstwhile agitators warned that they would never work for their former bosses or carry arms on behalf of anybody because they had been used and dumped.Addressing the aggrieved ex-agitators at the secretariat of the NYCN, the chairman ofthe youth council in the state, Sukubo Saraigbe Sokubo, urged the protesting ex-militants to remain calm with a promise of taking their complaint to the relevant authorities.Meanwhile, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) had recently stated that it wasnot in support of the re-election of Seriake Dickson as the governor of Bayelsa state.The group also warnedthe presidency
